No. 3 Video Transcoder 2016: Handbrake

Supported OS: Windows & Mac & Linux

2016 Top 3 Video Transcoders

Summary: Handbrake is our favorite video encoder for a reason: it’s simple, easy to use, easy to install, and offers a wealth of tweaking options to get the best possible file as a result. If you’re daunted by them, you don’t even have to use them—the app will compensate for you and pick some settings it thinks you’ll like based on your destination device. So many of you like Handbrake that many of you use it in conjunction with another app (like VLC, which makes ripping easy)—you’ll let another app do the rip and crack the DRM on your discs, and then process the file through Handbrake for encoding.

Pros:

▶ Besides transcoding videos, HandBrake is also able to convert VIDEO_TS folders and rip unprotected DVDs to MP4/MKV.
▶ HandBrake provides a couple of device presets for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Android, etc.
▶ HandBrake comes with multiple setting options.

Cons:

▶ The output container formats are very limited, thus can’t meet all people’s needs.
▶ It is complicated to set an output device preset.
▶ It is hard to understand some setting options.
▶ It can’t rip copy protected DVD and Blu-ray discs.
▶ Batch video conversion, only available on HandBrake 0.9.5 or later, has a complicated process

Editor’s note: Since it is free, I think I will choose it first if I need a DVD Ripper. After all, MP4 is enough for nearly all devices and HD media players.

These 3 video transcoders stand out above the others for many reasons. Of course, there maybe have different voice. If you have a recommendation for a terrific converter not featured on our list? Let us know in the comments below.
